WE DID IT – WE DID IT!
July 1st Update
Thank you, Wellington! Because of you, we not only met our goal, we passed it. Monday night at the City Council meeting, the Ellison Park Working Group, in conjunction with Wellington ISD, presented the City of Wellington with $445,000 in funding to be used to help obtain grants and matching funds.
With the encouragement of an anonymous donor to match the first $200,000 we reached that target and then some. The total donations from individuals and businesses stand at just over $270,000. Also, Wellington ISD has joined in to provide an additional $45,000 for resurfacing the tennis courts.
The Working Group plans to reserve $50,000 to fund a Wellington Works program that will employ a few high school seniors to facilitate a summer parks and recreation program. The goal is for the students to plan and host summer activities in the park, perform light upkeep, and cover some maintenance costs. Additionally, $15,000 will be reserved for spraying weeds. The intention of the remaining funds is for the start of a Powell Park project. Donations will continue to be accepted for this next project.
Members of the Working Group, Jon Sessions with the City, and Max Seymore with the Panhandle Regional Planning Commission are working to put the final touches on the budget.
